NDMA: 2 houses destroyed, 29 apartments damaged

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), on Monday, revealed two houses were completely destroyed, while 29 apartments were damaged during the fire that erupted in Henveiru Ward on September 20.

As per NDMA's official assessment of the damages, the two houses, Hulivee Nigaaran and Neighbour, are no longer suitable for habitation.

NDMA disclosed that the highest amount of people resided in Kalhu Huraa, which housed 11 families. Radhuvaania accommodated the second largest population, accommodating six families.

A total of 400 individuals were displaced in the incident which also resulted in damages to four warehouses and seven residential buildings.

On Sunday, NDMA Chief Executive Hisaan Hassan disclosed to local media outlet Mihaaru that people from six residences were moved out of temporary housing and relocated, after conducting assessments to ensure that their buildings of residence were safe for occupation.

Although some victims have made alternative living arrangements, 199 still remain lodged at temporary housing facilities provided by NDMA, which also arranged food provision.
