Expat succumbs to injuries sustained in landing craft incident

One of the three expatriates injured after being hit by the ramp of a landing craft passed away on Sunday.

Managing Director of ADK Hospital Ahmed Afal stated that the foreigner aged 47 succumbed to his injuries, out of the two that were undergoing treatment at ADK following the incident.

Afal stated that the third expatriate was shifted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment, upon the request of those who accompanied him to ADK.

Maldives Police Service formerly revealed that two of the workers suffered serious injuries to the head while the other's fingers were crushed.

Police disclosed that the incident took place at a landing craft at Thundufushi Island Resort in Alif Dhaalu Atoll. It caused when one side of the chain block malfunctioned while the ramp was being lifted.

According to Police, the three expatriates were on the ramp at the time.

The impact reportedly catapulted the three foreigners off the ramp and onto a metal part of the landing craft.

This incident took place around 1845 hrs on Saturday.
