Vice President Faisal Naseem visited Dharubaaruge convention centre late Saturday, to look into the progress of relief efforts undertaken by the government and volunteers, for the victims of the tragic fire incident last week.

According to the President's Office, VP Naseem met with officials from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the volunteers actively involved in the relief efforts.

The vice president extended his gratitude to the volunteers, hailing them for gathering together on short notice in the immediate aftermath of the fire. He highlighted the vital role they played in assisting the authorities and providing relief aid.

The fire broke out in a three-storey chemical storage facility in Henveiru ward of capital Male' City on September 20, setting aflame four warehouses, seven residential buildings, and claiming the life of one woman.

The biggest fire incident in Male' to date, it displaced over 400 people, of whom 300 are still temporary shelters. While the warehouse where the fire broke out has been demolished, NDMA stated that the government will compensate 20 percent of the damages incurred, for the victims.
