Foreign Minister extends condolences over Pakistan earthquake

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Wednesday extended condolences to his Pakistani counterpart, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, following the deadly earthquake in northern Pakistan.

“It was with deep shock and sadness that I learnt about the powerful earthquake that struck northern Pakistan yesterday, leading to the loss of innocent lives, injuring hundreds and destroying homes and infrastructure", read the minister's message.

Conveying his condolences to members of the bereaved and affected families, the foreign minister expressed sympathies on behalf of the Maldivian administration and people, to the government and people of Pakistan.

The magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit Pakistan-administered Kashmir and areas in Punjab province on Tuesday, killing at least 38 people while more than 300 were injured.
