Maldives Police Service, on early Monday, arrested a man over possession of consumer fireworks.
According to Police, the 37-year-old man was detained at approximately 0400 hours after he was screened following suspicious behaviour.
Moreover, Police confiscated additional objects containing gunpowder found in his residence.
In order to investigate the matter, the Criminal Court remanded the man for seven days.
While fireworks and gunpowder require special permits for importation, the man defended himself by claiming the substances belonged to a child relative of his.
