The Bar Council's Executive Committee announced the scheduling of a by-election, set to take place on September 28.
The upcoming election is intended to designate a replacement for former Executive Committee member Aisha Shujune Mohamed, following her recent appointment to the Supreme Court bench.
Executive committee members may serve for three-year periods and cannot be elected for more than two consecutive terms. The committee president, however, can only hold the position for one term.
As per the Legal Professions Bill, vacant positions on the Executive Committee must be filed within 30 days.
The Bar Council is mandated to investigate disciplinary cases against lawyers, issue legal licences, improve the quality of law education and maintain lawyers' integrity.
