The Prosecutor General's Office revealed that two individuals were formally charged for the MVR 1.3 million robbery from BHM Traders.
The police made six arrests in connection to the theft which occurred on March 10 while the sum was being transported to the State Bank of India (STB) for deposit.
The BHM employee delivering the money was attacked with pepper spray by helmet-clad assailants.
Following an investigation, the police forwarded the matter to the PG Office, requesting formal charges for a 21-year-old and a minor actively involved in the theft as well as two 23-year-olds culpable of masterminding the crime and hiding the stolen money.
A PG Office spokesperson clarified that a minor and one adult were charged concerning the robbery. No further information was disclosed.
Husnu al-Suood, the president of the Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances claimed that supporters of the Islamic State (IS) were involved in the BHM theft.
However, neither the police nor the PG Office commented on the matter.
