Maldives top diplomat meets Nepalese Foreign Affairs Minister

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Monday, held a meeting with the Nepalese Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Conference 2019 (OIC).

Minister Shahid welcomed his Nepalese counterpart to Maldives and the fourth edition of the OIC which is slated to take place from September 3 - 4 at Paradise Island Resort.

Acknowledging the similarities between Maldives and Nepal despite geographical distance and altitude differences, the ministers expressed mutual concern over the adverse effects of climate change on their countries.

Minister Shahid conveyed appreciation for Nepal's contributions to the country's health sector, particularly the offer of scholarships and seats for Maldivian medical students.

Furthermore, the foreign minister also accepted Minister Gyawali's invitation to attend the Sustainable Summits Conference which Nepal will host in 2020.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Gafoor Mohamed and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fathimath Ghina.
