President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday ratified amendments to the National Social Health Insurance Scheme Act.
The bill approving the amendment to this law was passed by the incumbent 19 iteration of the Parliament during its 37th sitting on August 21.
The changes to the law were passed with 70 MPs, from the 75 present, voting in favour of the amendments.
The amended provision refers to section 42 (A) of the law, specifying Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services to oversee the country's overall national social health insurance framework.
The Ministry is tasked with implementing the provisions of the Act.
According to the President's Office, the overarching intention of the amendments is to streamline government services regarding social health insurance, by ensuring that it falls under the mandate of the appropriate ministry.
The amended law is now published in the Gazette.
