'Maldives Accountants Forum 2019', organised by the Auditor General's Office, kicked off Tuesday at Dharubaaruge convention centre in capital Male'.

This year's iteration of the annual forum focuses on the theme "Embracing Technology, Enhancing Value".

There are 150 participants in attendance, including accountants from various foreign audit firms and associations, such as members of the International Federation of Accountants.

The objectives of the three-day forum are to advance the accounting sector of Maldives and determine solutions for issues raised by industry officials.

Speaking at the forum, Auditor General Hassan Ziyath declared that the forum, ever since it was first held in 2017, has helped to identify problems in the accounting sector as well as challenges in managing the financial works of government institutions.

"We have received various suggestions during past forums, and we are bringing about changes in light of those insights", he said.

He further expressed confidence that this year's forum would also prove fruitful.
