ADB President discusses future aid with President Solih

President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Takehiko Nakao, and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, discussed future avenues of engagement to promote development in key economic sectors of Maldives including tourism and fisheries.

During the discussion held at the President's Office, Takehiko revealed the possibility of ADB issuing small grants and loans at concessional rates.

The ADB President also highlighted the necessity of ensuring the equitable distribution of tourism revenue among the Maldivian population. He stressed that the expansion of the guest house industry would enable citizens to derive benefits from the industry.

Additionally, President Solih and President Nakao deliberated on ways to guarantee that future development would be sustainable, responsible and in co-existence with Maldives’ natural environment.

President Solih expressed gratitude for ADB's contributions to Maldives' development after it gained membership in 1978.

ADB has served as a key development partner to Maldives, providing a boost to socio-economic development efforts across numerous spheres.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the ADB President noting that the economic ideas shaping the current dministration’s policies were sound, thereby assuring Maldives of ADB's confidence that future development schemes in the country would be successful.
