President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Tuesday, appointed Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain as Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) and Dr Hassan Hameed as Chancellor of the Maldives National University (MNU).
Letters of appointment were presented to the new chancellors at a ceremony held at the President's Office.
Both individuals have made considerable contributions to the Maldivian education sector over the course of their respective careers.
Dr Mohamed Zahir served as Chancellor for both IUM and MNU on previous occasions. Furthermore, he held several ministerial positions and served at the President's Office over a lengthy career.
Dr Hameed previously served as MNU Vice-Chancellor and Rector of Maldives College of Higher Education in addition to filling various other senior capacities in the education sector.
Moreover, President Solih appointed Dr Muhammad Shareef and Dr Ibrahim Zakariyya as Vice Chancellors at MNU and IUM respectively.
