A brick wall collapsed on a ceiling which caved in at a house in Maamendhoo, Laamu Atoll, injuring a man and a child on Monday.

According to Maldives Police Service, the injured man was aged 38 and the child was two years old. However, neither the child nor the man was seriously injured in the incident.

Police further stated that the incident occurred due to the strong winds hailing the island in the current extreme weather.

Police revealed that the cement of the recently erected brick wall had not dried leading to its collapse on to the cemented tin ceiling, which caved in under its weight.

Following the incident, Police were active in nailing the tin roof, clearing the debris, cleaning the area and bringing it back to living conditions on a temporary basis.

A number of islands have reported property damage caused by the heavy rains and extreme weather affecting the country. Many marine incidents also occurred on the rough seas in recent weeks.
