Heroin, Cocaine worth MVR 1.93 million seized

Maldives Customs Service, on Saturday, revealed that a Maldivian man, aged 25, was arrested in an attempt to peddle 1.43 kilograms of narcotics worth MVR 1.93 million.

Customs stated that the man was arrested after he arrived on a flight from Trivandrum, India.

Two packages with illicit substances were tested positive for both heroin and cocaine.

According to Customs officials, the 1.09 kilograms of heroin found in his luggage has a street value of MVR 766,500 while the 0.333 kilograms of cocaine has a street value of MVR 1,165,500.

The man is now under Maldives Police Service's custody and an investigation is underway.

Customs seized an additional 1.53 kilograms of heroin on Friday, when a young Maldivian was searched on arrival from Sri Lanka.
