The Supreme Court, on Monday, slated former vice president Ahmed Adeeb's appeal hearing for Tuesday morning.

Although all charges against Adeeb were dropped, clearing him from serving a jail sentence of 33 years, the state had appealed one case regarding the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) graft scandal at the apex court.

An appellate bench consisting of Chief Justice Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi, Judge Abdulla Areef will preside over the case.

While the state requested the detention of Adeeb until his trial concludes, the Supreme Court only issued a travel ban.

On June 9, the state submitted an appeal regarding the High Court's decision to overturn Adeeb's eight-year prison sentence over the embezzlement of USD 5 million (MVR 77 million) as acquisition costs for Maabinhuraa, Lhaviyani Atoll.

Adeeb was recently apprehended mid-escape off the coast of India, Tuticorin Port, Thoothukudi, and was successfully extradited on Sunday.

Upon his return, Adeeb was brought to Police Headquarters and then taken to Criminal Court for an extension on his remand. However, based on the accounts of Maldives Police Service, the court moved against the detention and freed Adeeb on grounds that his initial arrest occurred in international waters outside the jurisdiction of Maldivian law.

He has since been transferred to Dhoonidhoo Prison after the Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest early Monday.

According to Indian authorities, the Indian Coastguard escorted Virgo 9, the tugboat aboard which Adeeb attempted to flee on July 27, to the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) during the early hours of Saturday and transferred him to the Maldives Coast Guard.
