Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid sent a message of condolence to the Indian Minister for External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, following the devastating floods affecting different parts of India.
In the message, the foreign minister expressed his sorrow upon receiving news of the loss of lives, injuries and property damage that resulted from the extreme weather events which recently affected several regions of India.
"At this difficult time, on behalf of the government and the people of the Maldives, I extend heartfelt sympathies and condolences to your excellency, the government and the people of India, especially to the members of the grieving families".
Complimenting the perseverance displayed by the Indian people during the natural calamity, Minister Shahid expressed hope that recovery efforts would proceed smoothly.
