Drug dealer arrested, 6kg of narcotics seized

Maldives Police Service arrested a drug dealer allegedly in possession of approximately six kilograms of narcotics with intent to distribute on Tuesday.

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed revealed in a social media post that Drug Enforcement Department (DED), Drug Intelligence and Upper North Division launched a " very successful" joint operation on July 23.

However, no further details pertaining to the discovery were disclosed. Police are yet to comment on the identity of the suspect, or the location of the arrest.

Since the initiation of the recent Police operations targetted towards ceasing drug-use and trafficking activities, authorities have uncovered 149 kilograms of drugs buried in Hulhuvaarulu, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in addition to seizing an Iranian drug trafficking boat loaded with over 50kg of illicit substances.
