Voting for Bar Council Elections commenced on Saturday morning.
The elections are only being held in capital Male' and Addu City with the 1,600 lawyers practicing in Maldives eligible for voting.
Polling station in Male' is set up at the old Jamaluddin building. A total of two ballot boxes are placed in Male'.
The polling station at Addu, with one ballot box, is located at Sharafuddin School.
The candidates contesting for the President of Bar Council if former Attorney General Husnu Al-Suood and Maumoon Hameed. Former Civil Court Judge Mohamed Haleem and Attorney General in former President Mohamed Nasheed's government Abdulla Muizzu are both gunning for Vice President.
An additional 19 lawyers are contesting for the remaining executive positions.
The executive committee of Bar Council consists of 6 members excluding the President, Vice President and Attorney General. All the positions except that of the Attorney General will be determined by the voting results between lawyers.
MVR 1.2 million was allocated out of the state budget for Bar Council Elections.
EC declared that the election's temporary results will be announced on Saturday and permanent results will be announced on Sunday.
