Muawwiz Rasheed, the vice president of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), was elected as the president of the graft watchdog on Thursday.

He was elected unanimously by the members of ACC, following the resignation of his predecessor, Hassan Luthfee.

Luthfee filed his resignation in late June, following the decision of the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions to sack him. He resubmitted his letter due to issues in validity, and the President's Office confirmed his termination this Wednesday.

Luthfee faces several allegations of having been under political influence and misusing his authority. Prior to his resignation, he had not attended his ACC duties for a period of six months.
