President Solih meets Singaporean President, Prime Minister

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed, on Monday, met with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

As part of the ongoing state visit, the discussions between the two head of states were held inside the presidential residence 'Istana'.

During the meeting, both parties deliberated on methods to further strengthen and diversify bilateral ties between the countries, which include various sectors such as the environment, climate change, anti-terrorism and the economy.

Moreover, President Solih expressed his appreciation for the Singaporean government, as the nation decided to extend technical support over the next two years.

Additionally, Singapore will assist in developing Maldivian water and waste management systems to current standards and aid in tackling the issue of housing.

President Solih also extended an open invitation to the President of Singapore to undertake a state visit.

Two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU)s were also signed by the countries during the state visit.

The first MOU is an updated Air Services Agreement aiming to improve air connectivity, establish greater commercial links and facilitate social liaison between the two countries.

The second MOU is on cooperation between the foreign ministries to establish a framework of regular consultation, further strengthening bilateral ties.

As part of the trip, President Solih visited 'Pulau Semakau', an offshore landfill managed by Singapore’s National Environment Agency, as well as the ISD Counter-Terrorism centre.
