President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, oversaw the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between the two governments on Monday.

According to the President's Office, the MOUs include an updated Air Services Agreement to improve air connectivity, establish greater commercial links and facilitate social liaison between the two countries.

The second MOU is on cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two nations, to establish a framework of regular consultation and thereby further strengthening bilateral ties.

The MOUs were signed by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on behalf of the Maldivian government.

President Solih is currently on his first state visit to Singapore. The president is set to meet members of the Maldivian community in Singapore to assess their concerns and enquire ways for the government to provide assistance.

As part of the trip, President Solih will also visit Pulau Semakau, an offshore landfill managed by Singapore’s National Environment Agency as well as the ISD Counter-Terrorism centre to learn from Singapore’s expertise in waste management and security.
