Inter-Parliamentary Union to host 4th South Asian Speakers Summit in Maldives

The global organization Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has decided to host the 4th South Asian Speakers Summit in Maldives.

The global organization Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has decided to host the 4th South Asian Speakers Summit in Maldives.

According to local media Mihaaru, the Media Director of Parliament Hassan Ziyau revealed that Maldives, along with the remaining member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), will participate in the meeting.

Moreover, Myanmar's Parliament Speaker T Khun Myat is set to participate in the summit.

The incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed will represent Maldives.

Although the location remains undecided, Ziyau stated that Nasheed considered hosting the summit inside the chambers of the Maldivian parliament.

SAARC is comprised of member nations Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh, while Myanmar is granted observer status.
