Planning Ministry probes building after balcony falls

Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, on Thursday, revealed that the ministry is assessing the building from which part of a balcony fell late Wednesday, injuring five people and damaging properties.

The balcony was situated on the second storey of the building.

According to local media Mihaaru, the ministry's Spokesperson Mariyam Ina Majid stated that an assessment is being conducted in collaboration with Male' City Council.

Local media reports that a 16-year-old was among those injured. All of them were treated at ADK Hospital.

However, ADK Hospital's Managing Director Ahmed Afaal stated that one individual's treatment is still ongoing, revealing that four of the victims were discharged. He stated that the patient is in stable condition. No further details were revealed.

Maldives Police Service further disclosed that motorcycles parked adjacent to the building sustained damages as well.

Eyewitnesses shared that those injured were sitting on the motorcycles at the time of the incident.
