Government to upgrade 5 health centres as hospitals

Ministry of Health, on Wednesday, decided to upgrade five health centres as hospitals across five atolls.

At the signing ceremony, the ministry contracted two companies, Epoch Associates and ArchEng Studios, to design the hospitals.

Hospitals to be built in:

- Ihavandhoo, Haa Alif Atoll : ArchEng Studios

- Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll : ArchEng Studios

- Maamigili, Alif Alif Atoll : ArchEng Studios

- Gadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaal Atoll : ArchEng Studios

- Thimarafushi, Thaa Atoll : Epoch Associates

Epoch Associates was awarded MVR 147,953 to design the hospital within a set deadline of 60 days, while ArchEng Studios was awarded MVR 477,077 to design four hospitals within 66 days.

During the ceremony, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen stated that great importance is given to the improvement of the health sector by the current administration.

Moreover, the ministry revealed that gynaecology and paedeatric services will be established in the hospitals. Additionally, dental, physiotherapy and dialysis services will be available as well.

The ministry expressed its intent to develop an emergency room, operation theatre and a children's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facility in the hospitals, along with access to ultrasound, x-ray scans and a labour room.
