Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi concluded his state visit to Maldives and departed to India early Sunday.

The prime minister was seen off at Velana International Airport (VIA) by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The visit was PM Modi's first trip abroad following his re-election to the Indian premiership, after the victory of his Bharat Janata Party in the Indian general elections last month.

The two leaders presided over high-level official talks, exchanges of six agreements in five sectors, and a joint press event at the President's Office. The prime minister then delivered a statement at the Maldivian parliament, becoming the second foreign leader to be accorded the privilege. The first head of state and government to address the parliament was India's then-PM Manmohan Singh in 2011.

The president and first lady later hosted a banquet in honour of PM Modi in Kurumba Village, where President Solih hailed the enduring friendship between Maldives and India throughout the years, and affirmed his commitment to contributing to that relationship, noting the increasing Maldives-India co-operation in areas such as commerce, human development and health.

Maldives and India declared their resolve to continue fruitful engagement in all spheres for the mutual benefit of both countries, in a joint-communique released by both governments following the conclusion of events.
