97 penalized, 364 warned during Eid traffic ban

Maldives Police Service, on Tuesday, issued a total of 364 warnings 97 penalties for individuals found in violation of the traffic ban implemented in the greater Male' region during Eid Al Fitr.

Galolhu police station issued 332 warnings and took disciplinary measures against 34 people, while Maafannu police station took action against seven individuals. The remaining 32 warnings and 49 penalizations were handled by traffic operations.

In addition, the Environment Police took measures against seven individuals.

The Transport Authority had prohibited driving engine-run vehicles on the roads of the capital city Male', as well as island suburbs Hulhumale' and Vilimale', between 1600 -1800 hrs. Vehicles providing crucial services, public transport buses and those which acquired permission from the Male' City council were exempt from the traffic ban.

The purpose of implementing the measure was to facilitate convenient participation in Eid festivities and games for citizens in greater Male'. Any individual found guilty of violating the ban was to be fined MVR 750.

The Transport Authority has introduced such measures in the past for significant occasions.
