The Indian government decided to send experts to Maldives, to assist with the investigations into financial crimes and cases of money laundering.

Citing senior officials of the government, Indian media 'Economic Times' revealed that experts will be stationed in the archipelago for a one-year period and develop strategies to better collaborate with local and international agencies within the field of law enforcement, anti-money laundering activities and anti-corruption.

"These officers would suggest methods to access operational support from Interpol, the London metropolitan police and the FBI among others", said the Economic Times.

According to officials, the experts will conduct an informal analysis of internal and external data resources, open source information, social media and develop new data sources.

Additionally, they will assist investigations of high profile cases through in-depth analysis and the preparation of link charts and other useful tools.

India is currently conducting evaluations to assign members to the panel of experts.

This does not mark the first instance where Indian officers were deputised in a foreign nation. Earlier, India sent financial experts to Mauritius and Singapore, in order to curb money laundering and tax evasion.
