Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the World Health Assembly (WHA).

Health Minister Ameen is set to chair Committee B, which mainly deals with financial aid given by WHO as well as managerial matters.

WHA, the governing body of the World Health Organization (WHO), is currently holding its 72nd session in Geneva, Switzerland.

Committee B is set to discuss the areas in which WHO grants financial aid to nations, how to maximise the benefit of these grants as well as issues concerning healthcare access for people living in Isreali-occupied territories.

The Maldivian delegation at WHA has expressed concern over continued conflicts in the Gaza Strip, restrictions on sending medical supplies to the area and the overall barriers to health care for Palestinian patients.

Maldives also voted for and co-sponsored WHA's decision to strengthen health conditions in the Palestinian Territories including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan.
