The newly appointed Ambassador of Maldives to the European Union (EU) Hassan Sobir presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the European Council Donald Tusk on Wednesday morning.

During the meeting that followed the ceremony held at the Headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council, Donald Tusk welcomed Ambassador Sobir and congratulated him on his appointment.

Moreover, he reiterated the commitment to strengthen the relations between Maldives and EU, expressing his confidence that the relations will reach new heights during Ambassador Sobir's tenure.

Ambassador Sobir conveyed warm greetings and good wishes from the Maldivian people and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Additionally, he further stated that EU was one of the most important development partners for Maldives and assured that he would work diligently to further strengthen the long-standing friendly ties between Maldives and European Union.

Sobir and Tusk also exchanged views on enhancing the cooperation between the Maldives and EU on trade, tourism, fisheries and climate change.

During the meeting Ambassador Sobir was accompanied by Counsellor at the Embassy of Maldives in Belgium Samahath Zuhuree.
