The Elections Commission (EC), on Monday, decided to fine Adhaalath Party and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) with MVR 50,000 for failing to submit audit reports as stipulated in the Political Party Act.
EC member Ahmed Akram revealed that the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) would also be fined as their audit report revealed that funds had been spent in violation of the regulations.
The elections watchdog had decided to set the fine for PPM at MVR 20,000 while the party official in charge of finances was given a separate fine of MVR 5,000.
As per the law, all political parties must submit an annual report of their financial activities during the first three months of the upcoming year.
EC had previously issued warnings to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Adhaalath Party and PPM for delaying the submission of their annual reports past this deadline.
