A 31-year-old Ukranian lady was inadvertently killed when a sleeping bus driver ran the person over in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', on Monday.
According to Maldives Police Service, the incident was initially reported around 0637 hrs. The accident took place in proximity to the gas station by Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM).
"It is believed that the events unfolded due to the bus driver falling asleep.", said Police, adding that the driver is currently under arrest.
Per local media Mihaaru, the accident occurred while the victim of the accident and another local woman were having an early morning stroll when the out of control bus veered in their direction.
The licensed driver was an employee of state-owned Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the company responsible for providing public transportation routes within the suburb.
