Mausoom, Azim's suspension over MMPRC scandal lifted

President Office on Tuesday announced the withdrawal of suspension of Fenaka Corporation's Chairman Ahmed Mausoom and Board member of Island Aviation Abdulla Azim over the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

Both suspensions were related to their alleged involvement in the MMPRC embezzlement case of MVR 1.4 billion.

President's Office and Privatization Board confirmed that the suspension was lifted.

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC)'s investigative report revealed that stolen funds were syphoned to private company SOF Pvt Ltd.that stolen

SOF transferred embezzled state funds to CTG and MC Maldives Pvt Ltd, two companies of which Mausoom is a shareholder.

In addition to Mausoom, who held the position of Chief of Staff in former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration, other shareholders of the company include Raafiu and Mohamed Hameed. Businesses carried out by MC Maldives are MC Wear shop and MC Maldives Bonded Warehouse.

Meanwhile, local reports uncovered that Azim received USD 50,000 from SOF while he was part of the investigative team assembled by ACC to investigate MMPRC case.

Both the suspensions were in line with the government's zero-tolerance policy.

The officials have resumed work since their suspension was nullified.
