Male’ City Council on Tuesday announced the decision to reopen Rasfannu artificial beach within this week.
The beach on the western coast of capital Male' was closed off to the public since late March due to sewage found in the water.
According to Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef, the Health Protection Agency announced that tests conducted last week concluded that the salt was clear of contamination. Shamau stated that the council decided to reopen the beach after additional tests to confirm the results.
Waste was also found in an earlier instance in Rasfannu, after a leak in the sewage pipe near the previously run West Park.
Shamau assured that the water is currently clear of contaminants. However, he did not state further details on work done to decontaminate the water.
