Elections Commission (EC), on Wednesday, declared that there were no changes to the results of Baarah and Fonadhoo constituencies.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Ahmed Abdulla won the Baarah constituency with 1,524 votes. After the re-count, it was decided that 14 invalid votes were in fact legitimate, out of which seven votes went to Ahmed and seven to his competitor, current Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau, who received a total of 1,482 votes.

The final results were 1,531 votes for Ahmed and 1,489 votes for Shujau.

Although three ballot boxes were to be re-counted, as the results from two of the boxes will not change regardless, EC has decided not to re-count the third ballot box.

With regards to the null votes of Fonadhoo constituency, the campaign agent of current Fonadhoo MP and temporary Leader of People’s National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla filed at EC’s Secretary General to recount all the ballot boxes. An agreement could not be reached and hence the null votes of only one ballot box was counted. None of the votes were considered valid.

The current Fonadhoo MP lost the constituency to MDP candidate Moosa Siraj. He received 963 votes while Siraj received 1,007 votes.
