Anti-Corruption Commission revealed on Wednesday that no corruption was involved in any cases investigated by the commission regarding the parliamentary elections held last Saturday.

A total of 20 cases of alleged corruption were submitted to ACC, and five of them have been closed so far.

ACC's Vice President Muaviz Rasheed stated that 11 cases of alleged bribery are currently under investigation. He further disclosed that most of the investigations have been completed and details will be publicised soon.

"Most of the complaints submitted included distribution of incentives, hosting tournaments and giving items to organisations in order to garner support", Muaviz said.

Noting that most complaints submitted last year regarded utilizing state property for campaigns, Muaviz stated that no such cases were made this election.

Prior to the parliamentary elections, the corruption watchdog summoned several candidates for questioning on allegations of bribery.

According to the tentative results announced by Elections Commission, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) of the ruling coalition secured parliament majority by a landslide with 65 seats.

Jumhooree Party (JP) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) won five seats each. Three seats went to People's National Congress (PNC) while Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) secured two constituencies. Despite the large number of independent candidates that contested, only seven made it to parliament.
