President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Tuesday night, stated that his main aim is to advance human resources in Maldives.

Speaking at the graduation convocation for Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), the president declared that the government’s philosophy is that true development is the evolvement of the human mind and cognition.

He mentioned that a large portion of the budget is being spent on education as he believes true progress will come from investment in education.

While the government has a budget of MVR 30 billion, MVR 3 billion has been allocated for the education sector.

“It is now possible to get your first degree for free. The government aims to reduce expenditure and other issues for as many students as possible”, said President Solih.

He remarked that the knowledge a student gains is the foundation of their life, and it must be established with honesty and integrity.

The president acknowledged that the government intends on ensuring that every student’s education is based on Islamic beliefs, as it is of utmost importance.

He asserted that the government will always work towards helping every citizen have access to higher education for free.

“Therefore, all of you are an important investment for the future of this country. The development of the country will depend on the investment. Graduating from different fields, your next aim must be to aid in the development of the country”, he addressed the graduates.
