Dharumavantha Hospital has been officially inaugurated as a tertiary-level facility after five years of operation.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu officiated the opening at a ceremony held at the hospital last night.
The hospital unveiled the National Fertility Centre, located on the 22nd floor. The centre is equipped to begin fertility treatments and offers services such as IVF, IUI, and egg, sperm, and embryo freezing.
The Hospital said that the centre aims to alleviate financial and psychological burdens of families in Maldives.
Additionally, upgrades to the hospital include the replacement of some equipment in the state-of-the-art hybrid theatre on the 11th floor, the opening of a hybrid cath lab, a dedicated emergency unit for children, and the establishment of a pediatric ICU.
Dharumavantha Hospital, a 25-storey facility constructed during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, had remained partially operational since its completion. The 17th to 19th floors were previously unused due to a lack of staff and equipment.
