A new park to symbolize the friendly relations between Maldives and China has been opened today.
The small park located at the start of the SinaMale' Bridge in Male' was inaugurated today by Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib and Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin.
The ministry said that in addition to celebrating friendly relations between the countries, the park aims to encourage closer ties in the community.
The park is equipped with seating for those who want to relax and has a display of photos showing various stages of the bridge being constructed.
The SinaMale' Bridge was constructed with immense assistance from China. The project cost about USD 200 million, with USD 116 million of this being granted as free aid from the government of China. USD 72 was further given on a loan basis, with the government of Maldives investing USD 12 million.
