President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin expressed the importance of the Sinamalé bridge on its 6th anniversary.
The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is a powerful symbol of the strong bilateral relationship and trust between both countries, said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today.
The president's statement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the bridge's opening.
President Dr. Muizzu, who was the Housing Minister when the bridge was build said that the bridge not only connects islands, but also represents the bond and trust between China and Maldives.
" This remarkable feat of engineering not only connects our islands but also symbolizes the enduring partnership and mutual trust between our two great nations. The bridge continues to be a testament to our shared vision of progress, unity, and prosperity. May this bridge serve as a beacon of cooperation for generations to come," he wrote.
Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin also posted on X, saying that the bridge "has greatly promoted the social and economic development of Maldives and brought transformative changes to its people's life, which has vividly show how Belt & Road initiative and friendly cooperation with China benefit the people."
The bridge was build during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration. The project which connects Malé and Hulhumalé has significantly eased transportation between the two islands and has also facilitated the development of Hulhumalé.
