Ministry of Education has said that they have received 5700 forms for enrolment in Grade 1 for the upcoming academic year.
Enrolment for Grade 1 for the academic year that starts on April 6 was opened on August 15 last year. Like other years, the highest number of forms were from the Male' area this year as well.
Speaking in a show on state media PSM, Ali Mufeed, in charge of School Administration at the Ministry of Education, said that over 5700 new students for Grade 1 have been enrolled.
Mufeed said that over 2000 of these were in Male' area schools.
Previously, Grade 1 slots were granted to students who turn 7 years of age before January 1 of the year. However, when the start of the academic year was previously changed to August, the last two years saw students who turn 7 years old by the end of December being enrolled to Grade 1.
With the new changes this administration is bringing to the academic year, 2024's academic year ended in February this year.
In January, the ministry released a circular on enrolment of students and transfer between schools. This said that students who turned 6 years of age before December 31 last year, and are not 7 years of age then are eligible.
