Education Ministry reports teacher to police for alleged student abuse

Ministry of Education has suspended a school teacher in Malé City and reported them to the police over allegations of abusing disabled student.

The unnamed school is reported to have flagged the female teacher's abuse against the primary grade student to the ministry.

Speaking on the issue which came to light on Thursday afternoon, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu said that abusing students is not acceptable.

For this reason, the Ministry reported the case to Maldives Police Service, he said.

"The ministry will report such incidents responsibly to relevant authorities to prevent future incidents," the minister said.

Minister Shafeeu also urged teachers to pay extra attention to protect the rights of students and provide them with a happy and safe educational environment.

Several teachers were suspended for abusing students in the past as well.
