"Hopefully we're going with the aim of being successful in either one [of the goals] this year. That's winning at least one match or securing a place after competing in the three-point challenge," they said, speaking with the press before they flew to New York.
The team consists of Mafaz Mohamed (31), Ismail Faruhan (30), Ibrahim Naseem (29) and Mohamed Sabeeh Thaufeeq (26).
The finals, which featured champions from 20 countries, saw Maldives playing in a group with Moldova, Belgium and America.
In the first match at group stage, Maldives defeated Moldova and scored better than last year.
Maldives won with a score of 9-12 against Moldova. Matches against Belgium and America were lost, with scores of 4-21 and 7-21 respectively.
In the finals, Serbia became champions again, this team beating America.
The finals were played at the Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York from October 19 to 20.
In addition to winning a match, the group also aimed to participate in the three point contest and win a prize. Mafaz took part in this and emerged amongst the five best players.
Unranked will return to Maldives after a 10 day training camp organized with assistance from sponsors.
