Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Council member for Northwest Maafannu has today been elected to the post of Deputy Mayor of Male' City.
Areesh was the only council member who applied for the post of Deputy Mayor, following the resignation of Ahmed Nareesh last Wednesday.
Areesh was elected today through the votes of sixteen members.
Areesh was initially elected to the council on a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket. However, he switched to the ruling party once elected.
