President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced last night that for Ramadan next year, the government will gift a case of tuna cans to each household in the country.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Social Centre last night to mark one year in office, the President said that he has instructed the MD of STO to issue a case of tuna cans to each household instead of staple foods such as rice and flour.
The President highlighted that this year in Ramadan, a discount worth a total of MVR 142 million had been granted in water and electricity bills.
Along with this, 1.6 million kilograms of staples were issued to 82,000 households, he said, pointing out that this is something that was not done before.
He also pointed out that construction of houses across the country had risen exponentially, for which he had brought down prices.
In addition to this, the administration had also covered the costs of finishing work done on 7000 Hiyaa flats. He said that even the Phase 1 flats had been given a concession to pay 20 percent in monthly installments.
Fines accumulated by social housing across the country had also been cancelled for a year, which came to MVR 77 million, he said.
