Ministry of Housing and Urban Development awarded the development of 100 housing units each in Thulhaadhoo, Baa Atoll and Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, to construction companies on Wednesday.
A total of MVR 79,682,850 was allocated for the 100 housing units in Thulhaadhoo, with MVR 71,403,200.60 for 100 housing units in Naifaru. The total expense sum up to MVR 151,086,050.60.
The housing units in Naifaru are to be designed and built by W&A Overseas Pvt Ltd within 311 days.
State Minister Ahmed Nasheed signed the contract on behalf of the ministry, W&A's Managing Director Ajhad Abdulla Zuhair represented the company.
Precision Engineering Services also signed a design and build contract for the housing units in Thulhaadhoo, which are to be finished in 363 days. The contract was signed on behalf of the company by Managing Director P W Thilakaranth.
The planned housing units will measure 1,100 square feet. According to the housing ministry, each apartment will feature three rooms, three bathrooms, a storeroom, a living room and a laundry area.
The housing units in Naifaru are to be 3-4 storeys high, but those in Thulhaadhoo will be individually constructed residences.
The Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) is allocated MVR 6.6 billion in this year's State Budget, to finance 315 new projects and 229 ongoing ones.
