Police said several cases of fighting were reported in different parts of the city between yesterday and last Thursday.
• Fight which erupted after men donning helmets entered De Republic Café last night.
• Six individuals were involved in a fight using weapons in front of Kinza Cafe last night.
• Fighting near Noor Mosque last night.
• Let's Go Cafe was vandalized last Thursday.
"Police are investigating these cases," Maldives Police Service said, adding that "more details will be released as the investigation progresses."
The cafes where the fights took place are common hookah spots within the city.
The "Let's Go Cafe'" vandalism is said to have been caused by individuals who claimed the café has put up Christmas decorations. A video of the men damaging the cafe' has been posted on social media, showing the people shouting, "this is Maldives and this cannot be done here!"
The vandals also threatened the foreign employees in the cafe' who videoed the scene, demanding the footage be deleted.
Police spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said an investigation into the incident is underway and that necessary measures are being taken. However, no arrests have been announced so far.
