Government of India has today officially handed over 700 housing units built in Hulhumale' through Indian loan assistance.

The housing units were handed over during today's meeting between President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the ongoing official State visit to India.

The project to build 4000 housing units through a USD 227 million (MVR 3.5 billion) loan from India's Exim Bank was initiated during the previous administration. These include 16 towers being built in Hulhumale' by KPIL (former JMC Company) and 16 towers being built by NBCC.

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel told Mihaaru News that the flats have been handed over by the Indian government after all the finishing work has also been completed.

Ten more elevators needed for the towers were brought last month. With these, total number of elevators reach thirty.

The remaining flats under this project will be in 32 towers of 17 or 18 floors. Each floor will house eight apartments. This includes 1200 two room apartments and 2800 three room apartments.

Housing Minister Dr Ali Haidar has said that the 4000 apartments are expected to be completed by mid-2025.
