Elections Commission has announced that they are now accepting complaints regarding political party registrations.
The commission said that membership forms received by December 31 last year have now been processed as per the Political Parties Act. With this, a complaint window of ten days has commenced, they said.
Complaints can be submitted via my.elections.gov.mv, or their complaint portal ppr.elections.gov.mv, or through visiting the commission's offices.
If submitting complaints via the portal, the complainant must attach a copy of a valid official identification document and complete the necessary information required.
This has come at a time when there are multiple complaints of fraudulent forms having been submitted through using people's personal information without their knowledge or consent.
The allegations are primarily against ruling party, People's National Congress, which recently ran a major membership driving, increasing their numbers to the point where they are now the largest political party in the country.
As per the Elections Commission, PNC now has 68,968 registered members.
The second largest political party currently is opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, with 43,755 registered members. This is a marked decrease from last years MDP membership numbers, which stood at 52,142 at the start of 2024.
