An agreement was signed on Monday to commence shipping Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO)'s fish and fish products through Maldives State Shipping (MSS) boats.

Under the agreement, MSS will provide all logistics solutions for the export of MIFCO's products.

This includes loading MIFCO products such as frozen tuna, tuna cans, tuna pouch and fishmeal to MSS containers at MIFCO facilities across the country and exporting them.

These containers will be brought to Male' on MSS's local inter atoll transport boat MSS Opal and transferred to MSS feeder boats which will then export them.

MIFCO said that this agreement facilitates exporting their products to any destination in the world through MSS.

Previously, MIFCO exported their products by connecting generator sets to supply boats, loading reefer containers to them, and transporting them to Male' or through bulk loading of fish to reefer vessels.

MIFCO said that this agreement would result in changing the method of export, effectively bringing down costs and bringing a solution to the storage issues faced by the company. It also opens the path for MIFCO to reach new markets with ease through MSS's global network.
