The man who survived the fire in Alifu Alifu atoll Rasdhoo has been taken off the ventilator and is being prepared for treatment abroad.

The fire occurred on the night of March 26 in a residence, severely burning a 31-year-old couple. The woman succumbed to her injuries on Monday night while receiving treatment at IGMH.

The man, who suffered burns across most of his body, remains in the ICU. An official from IGMH stated that no further details about his condition are available at this time.

Dr. Shailash V Ranad, a burns and plastic surgeon from Mumbai’s Bhatiya Hospital, arrived last month to advice on the treatment for both victims.

The family has requested public support to help send the man abroad for further treatment.

Despite the severe burns, the fire caused minimal damage to the room, with only a burnt window curtain as the most significant damage.
